Exploring Life Through The Lens

Who loves oats?

. . .

(pin drop silence)

Who loves fried chicken, lard, bacon, & chocolate cake?

* frantically waving my right hand

So what was I thinking when I bought a bag of rolled oats 8 months ago? It was at Whole Foods. The bulk section. Aaah. I remember now. It was on sale. I’m cheap like that.

8 months later, it’s still laying in the freezer.  Every time I open the freezer door, it’s yelling take that you cheap loser. I’m still here. That and a bag of pecans.

Creamy & delicious. Made with pecans and chia seed. Filled with whole grains, fiber, protein, probiotics & antioxidants. Need I say more?

Have I had pecans before? Maybe. Is this my I can’t live without you favorite nut? Probably not. But hey, they were on sale too.

And what about you frozen mixed berries from Costco. What did you do (or will do) to earn the right to one feet of freezer space? I’ve tried to get rid of you. Berry Lemonade. Berry Crumble. But there’s just too many of you. The horror.

Then there’s the big bag of chia seed? I swore when I saw you… all 2 pounds of you… I’d be in Chocolate Chia Pudding heaven all day long. Instead, you’re still that same 2 pounder chia seed in my pantry.

Creamy & delicious. Made with pecans and chia seed. Filled with whole grains, fiber, protein, probiotics & antioxidants. Need I say more?

Lesson learned. Never shop hungry. Seriously.

No, no. Actually, that’s fine if you have the I really need to finish you OCDness. Like me. Only 8 months late.

Berry Yogurt Oat Smoothie.

Whole grains. Fiber. Protein. Probiotics. Antioxidants.

Sounds just like what I need to bulldoze my gut. The icing on the cake? It’s ridiculously delicious. I kid you not. You don’t really taste the oats or the chia seed. It’s really filling too so you won’t feel the need to eat other crap. Like cake. I wish there was real icing and real cake. No cake, guys. No cake.

Creamy & delicious. Made with pecans and chia seed. Filled with whole grains, fiber, protein, probiotics & antioxidants. Need I say more?

Love healthy smoothies? Try this Orange Avocado Green Smoothie. Perfect for meals or snack. It’s creamy and super delicious that you won’t believe it’s good for you.

What’s buried deep in your freezer, fridge or pantry?

Berry Yogurt Oat Smoothie        Serves 2

what you need:

2 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/4 – 1/2 cup water
1/3 cup pecans or other nuts
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 tbs chia seed
1-2 tbs agave nectar, honey or other sweetener of choice

directions:

Place everything in a high powered blender and blend until smooth and creamy.  For thicker or thinner consistency, add or decrease the amount of water according to your taste. Adjust the sweetener if so.

Note:

Oats: You can opt to grind the oats into powder before adding to smoothie for a finer consistency. I just dump it whole because I’m lazy like that. Soaking or not soaking before hand is also a matter of preference.

Wow this looks so amazing! I’m wondering if my puny little blender could handle it. I’m going to have to find out because it sounds TASTY! I also found you on Foodgawker and had to come check out who made this masterpiece. Love your photos!

I just gotta say – the food photos you took of this are so insanely awesome that I INSTANTLY faved this the second I saw it. Normally before I fave something on foodgawker, I check the recipe first, but these pictures alone are worthy some great feedback and a fave. Now, the smoothie sounds awesome as well. I hope I will get to make it, soon!
And the color!!! My gosh. So so gorgeous. I’ll see if I can find this on instagram and fave it there as well 😀
