Exploring Life Through The Lens

Watermelon Limeade

Watermelon was a forbidden fruit. Says the lady who grew up with mild asthma as a young girl. You know what else was forbidden? Orange.

Two of my favorite fruit and I wasn’t allowed any.

I whined. I cried. I begged.

Sometimes, my parents would give into my pathetic whines but most of the time, it was a no. As I grew older and wiser, their response went from a ‘no’ to ‘It’s up to you’. It was so reverse psychology on their part. They knew that I knew that it was tough if I’d start to cough and wheeze. They played with my conscience, my logic. I wasn’t stupid.

After 12 years old, somehow, the symptoms subsided. I’m not sure what happened but the doctor said that if I don’t have the symptoms after 11 years of age, I’ve pretty much outgrown the disease. Who outgrows diseases anyway? I never needed the inhaler all this while too. I didn’t bother with the explanation as long as I get to freely eat the forbidden fruit. Everything is still a mystery.

Can anyone possibly get tired of watermelon? Probably not. But I am tired of chewing watermelon. Every mouthful is so juicy and crisp. So much control needed not to make a mess. My mouth deserves a vacation. I resorted to blending it instead. While I was at it, I thought why not add some lime, sugar and salt.

This Watermelon Limeade is perfect for summer but let's be honest here. It's great during winter or fall or spring too. Refreshing and thirst quenching awesomeness.

Watermelon Limeade.

One sip and I didn’t even know what hit me. Not for the faint heart. So good… so, so good.

Quick Recipe                      Serves 4

what you need:

4 cups watermelon juice
1/4 cup lime juice, from 2-3 limes
4 tsp agave nectar (or other sweetener)
A pinch of salt (optional)

We recommend using https://customwater.com/ purified bottle water to get a better taste and also healthier for your family to ingest.

directions:

1. Put everything in a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Use a strainer to strain. Serve.

Notes:

  1. You could juice the watermelon instead.
  2. If you like it with the pulp, skip the straining.
  3. Add watermelon ice cubes by cutting watermelon in cubes and freezing them beforehand.
  4. Blend frozen instead of fresh watermelon for a slushy type consistency.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of mint, a lime or rim the glasses with salt or sugar.
  6. Adjust the agave or lime to if you like it more or less tart or sweet.

What drink do you concoct out of watermelon, the forbidden fruit?
